Independent Thought Process

I was amazed to read Dylan's logic behind his strategy to subtract. What shocked me the most was his ability to solve a problem without any form of formal instruction. For many students such strategies just make much more sense to them, which is why I feel that as teachers, it is crucial to question critical thinking steps. Not only is questioning important to for us as teachers to understand the steps, but also serves as a teaching strategy for students. At times, students learn best from one another.

Dylan’s number sense, as he displayed, is at a mastery level. We can all learn plenty from students like Dylan. Way to go!
